twrp recovery Galaxy S6 Edge plus

Update: New TWRP recovery version 3.0.0-0 is now available for the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, one that is GSM based and comes with codename zenlte. If your Edge Plus is zenlte, then the version 3.0 of recovery given below is compatible with your device.

TWRP 3.0 comes with a new UI, and adds some cool features like full-fledged terminal emulator, sparse images flashing ability, etc. and also the ability to decrypt the SDcard encrypted by system under marshmallow as internal storage. For full TWRP 3 changelog, check this page.

Original post: TWRP recovery for Galaxy S6 Edge+ is now a reality and if you are a pro user who thrives on root, custom ROMs and Xposed modules, you’d feel elated to hear that it’s available for Galaxy S6 Edge+.

We’ve provided a download and full guide on how to install Galaxy S6 Edge+ TWRP recovery below. Note that this will trigger KNOX flag, meaning you won’t be able to use Samsung Pay, and won’t be able to install secured enterprise apps at your Office after this. So, thick twice about this, decide and then proceed for this.

Here’s the status for all Galaxy S6 Edge+ variants as regards TWRP recovery.

International Galaxy S6 Edge+ (SM-G928C, SM-G928i and SM-G928F)

Supported devices

  • SAMSUNG GALAXY S6 EDGE+, model no. SM-G928T/C/F/K/L/G/i
  • Don’t try this on other CDMA S6 Edge+ variants, like at US Cellular, Sprint and Verizon!
  • Don’t try on any other device whatsoever!

Important: Check your device’s model no. on its packaging box, or in Settings > About device.

Warning: Warranty may be void of your device if you follow the procedures given on this page. You only are responsible for your device. We won’t be liable if any damage occurs to your device and/or its components. Also, this trips KNOX, meaning KNOX would stop working on your device, and thus you won’t be able to Samsung Pay, or install enterprise Apps on your device at Office.

Backup important files stored on your device before proceeding with the steps below, so that in case something goes wrong you’ll have backup of all your important files. Sometimes, Odin installation may delete everything on your device!

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1. Download Odin and TWRP recovery file from above.

Step 2. Install Galaxy S6 Edge+ driver (method 1 there!) first of all. Double click the .exe file of drivers to begin installation. (Not required if you have already done this.)

Step 3. Extract the Odin file. You should get this file, Odin3 v3.10.6.exe (other files could be hidden, hence not visible).

Step 4. Disconnect your Galaxy S6 Edge+ from PC if it is connected.

Step 5. Enable OEM unlock on your device.

  1. Go to Settings > About device. And then tap on build no. 7 times or until your get the message ‘You’re now a developer’.
  2. Go back to Settings, scroll down, and tap on ‘Developer options’.
  3. Look for ‘Enable OEM unlock’ and use its toggle to enable it. Accept the warning by tapping on OK button.

Step 6. Boot Galaxy S6 Edge+ into download mode:

  1. Power off your Galaxy S6 Edge+. Wait 6-7 seconds after screen goes off.
  2. Press and hold the three buttons Power + Home + Volume down together until you see warning screen.
  3. Press Volume Up to continue to download mode.

Step 7. Double click on extracted file of Odin, Odin3 v3.10.6.exe, to open the Odin window, as shown below. Be careful with Odin, and do just as said to prevent problems.
Odin 3.10.6

Step 8. Connect your Galaxy S6 Edge+ to PC now using USB cable. Odin should recognize your Galaxy S6 Edge+. It’s a must. When it recognizes, you will see Added!! message appearing in the Log box in bottom left, and the first box under ID:COM will also show a no. and turn its background blue. Look at the pic below.

Odin 3.10.6 Added message

  • You cannot proceed until you get the Added!! message, which confirms that Odin has recognized your device.
  • If you don’t get Added!! message, you need to install/re-install drivers again, and use the original cable that came with the device. Mostly, drivers are the problem (look at step 2 above).
  • You can try different USB ports on your PC too, btw.

Step 9. Load the TWRP file into Odin. For this, click the AP button on Odin and the select the file: twrp-2.8.7.0-zenlte.img.tar

Odin 3.10.6 Firmware loaded after md5 check

Step 10. Make sure Re-partition checkbox is NOT selected, under the Options tab. Don’t use PIT tab either. Go back to Log tab btw, it will show the progress when you hit start button in next step.
Re-partition Remains Off

Step 11. Click the Start button on Odin now to start flashing the firmware on your Galaxy S6 Edge+. Wait till installation is finished, after which your Galaxy S6 Edge+ will reboot automatically. You’ll getPASS message as show below upon successful installation from Odin.

  • If Odin gets stuck at setup connection, then you need to do this all again. Disconnect your device, close Odin, boot device into download mode again, open Odin, and then select the firmware and flash it again as said above.
  • If you get FAIL in the top left box, then also you need to flash the firmware again as stated just above.
    Odin 3.10.6 Pass Message Appears

→ That’s it. Enjoy the TWRP recovery on your Galaxy S6 Edge+!

Important note: If are looking to root your Galaxy S6 Edge+ by flashing SuperSU using TWRP, then DON’T DO that. Rooting on Android 5.1 and 6.0 isn’t that simple, as you need to flash a root supporting custom kernel first. Check the page below for help.

The build no. of G928C Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is G928CXXU2BPB8 (PB8 in short, full filename being G928CXXU2BPB8_G928COJV2BPB7_MID.zip).

After the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge started receiving the update in various regions in Europe two days before, it’s the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus who is up for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update treatment, starting in Korea today.

G928C Galaxy Edge Plus gets Marshmallow root with deep sleep fix

Galaxy S6 Edge plus Marshmallow root

The Marshmallow root for Galaxy Edge Plus is now available, one that also fixes the deep sleep issue. The root is under testing right now and if you have install the Marshmallow update that was released a few days back, you can use to gain root access on your device.

Until Samsung releases the source code for Galaxy S6 Edge+, it seems this is the best root trick that could become available for the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus on Marshmallow.

This root method involves installing the TWRP recovery, Xposed module and a kernel file, followed by Superuser installation. Because of similarities between Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Note 5, the developer dr.ketan’s kernel for Note 5 is said to be working totally fine on the Galaxy S6 Edge+ too.

→ To achieve root access on your Galaxy S6 Edge+ model no. G928C on Marshmallow update, use this page.

[BTW, the above is for Marshmallow, look here for the Android 5.1 Root for Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.]

In case you need help with the instructions at above page, let us know, we will provide a guide at this page if you ask for it. Until then, good luck!

Currently on 5.1.1, the trio will get the latest Android 6.0.1 update soon, one that will bring comprise Wi-Fi calling, bug fixes and Google security updates besides big Marshmallow upgrade.

Wi-Fi calling is something we’ve seen recently given a go on Sprint and Verizon updates too.

Let’s the update comes out sooner, and is BUG-free.

verizon note 4 security update

A new update has been released for each of Verizon Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. the purpose is one and simple: latest monthly security patch, form Google.

The build no. for the Verizon Note 5 is N920VVZW2BPF2, based on stock Android build MMB29K. While, for the Verizon S6 Edge Plus, the new software version is G928VVZW2BPF2, based on of course MMB29K stock Android build.

If you own either of these two devices, head to Settings, and look for a system update for PF2 build.

BTW, a similar update has been released for Sprint Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5 today, while yesterday it was for Sprint One A9.

Check out our firmware pages below to download the latest firmware in Odin TAR format currently available, while new ones including the above updates will be added as and when they become available.

AT&T s6 edge plus 6.0 ota update

Update: AT&T has come up with the changelog and official confirmation of the Marshmallow update for its S6 Edge Plus. The full build no. of the update is G928AUCU2BPE6, and it brings Video call and bug fixes too apart from Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow upgrade.

If your current build is PB2, then the Marshmallow PE6 update’s size is 1350 MB for you. While, if your current software is dubbed PE3, then the your download will be 1370 MB.

The Video call feature that AT&T is bestowing on the S6 Edge Plus here is a pretty cool one. You don’t need a separate app for this, btw, all you have to begin a video call is hit the video button in the dialer app, which is already there.

You can switch between HD Voice call an Video call at will, and can even do a one-side video call. Anyway, the king of the show is Android 6.0.1.

Only few minutes ago we reported that the AT&T Galaxy Note 5 Android 6.0 update (PE6) has been released, the carrier is following that up with a similar update for its Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.

The build no. of the S6 Edge Plus Marshmallow update is PF1, and is sized around 1.4-1.6 MB, depending on your current software version.

The update brings the some great features from 6.0 like Doze mode, extended permissions management, Now on Tap, etc. on the device.

If you get any trouble finding the OTA, wait for the Odin TAR firmware file which we will be posting at our firmware page for Galaxy S6 Edge Plus (Note 5 firmware here, BTW).

Nougat notififcation shade galaxy s6 s7

With root, it’s possible to get some of Android Nougat looks on your Galaxy S6 and S7, including the Edge variants of them both. But know that this requires root access. If you don’t have root, then you better look to root your device first.

If you don’t like TouchWiz, Samsung’s custom UI, a lot, then we don’t blame you — in fact, we share the feeling with ya. The cool thing with Android and its myriad of hacks is that customization is endless. A trick shared below will allow you to replace the look of notification shade to make it more like Android Nougat!

You can also enable and disable the soft keys, or on-screen keys if you prefer. While, if you wish to disable the capacitive keys — which is a good thing to do when you got soft keys up and running — then that’s possible too.

With the use of root access, Xposed framework (and its modules GravityBox and Andorid N-ify) and Good Lock app, you can do all of the above.
